Noise comes in all forms. Noise in LA is experiential. However, what came to me after watching Power and Water was how passive our experience of LA really is. Like the cinéma we passively accept images. While viewers watch a movie through a projector, viewers watch LA through the window of a car.
LA is one of the few gigantic metropolitans without a well planned public transportation system. Tokyo, London, Paris, Rome, New York have intricate public transportation systems and so there are many feasible ways of getting to a destination in a timely manner. In LA there are only the congested roads and freeways. Traveling becomes very different in LA because the whole community is on the road. As a result one's experience in LA comes (for a large percentage of one's day) from the perspective of one's car.

Wind, heat, geography of LA. Relevant links on wikipedia: From Wikipedia: Fohn Wind: occurs when a deep layer of prevailing wind is forced over a mountain range. As the wind moves upslope , it expands + cools, causing water vapor precipitating out. This dehydrated air then passes over the crest and begins to move downslope. As the wind descends to lower levels on the leeward side of mountains, the air temperature increases adiabotically as it comes under greater atmospheric pressure creating strong, gusty, warm, and dry winds. It also has the ability to raise the temp. up to 54 degrees!

For my personal project my camera phone will be taking a photograph everytime I pass through an entrance or exit. I think this idea is compelling because there is a constant desire to label things in our world. This is of course the spatial aspect of the project. The psychology of the project is compelling because of the duality in the label entrance and exit. Every person has their own label for ever doorway they encounter and there is always variation.
As a result I intend this exploratory research based on the N-80 camera phones we have. I have been working to set up an .xml file that dumps pictures taken automatically to my sensorbase account.

[edit] Chiparaki Mural 4 monument 872 event
Concept: the original idea was to have a graphic of Chiparaki and then the definition of it on the wall right of the front entrance to Chiparaki. Below that for the party there would be a little station where an outlined box would sit on the wall at normal height. Below that would be some tarp and various paints open for people to add whatever it is they need to add.
I believe this would be a great way to start a public event about the building (monument 872) as well as for an unveiling of sorts for Chiparaki. Pictures to come shortly...
